In the Darkened Lands of Arabia

In the darkened lands of Arabia, Where infant daughters were buried alive, Where the weak were traded, bought, and sold, And mercy bowed before the might of gold. No harvest crowned the barren Makkah plain, While Persia’s sacred fires upheld their reign. The chiefs of Quraysh, swollen high with pride, Bowed down to gods their very hands supplied. Then suddenly, the heavens blazed with light, And Satan wailed beneath the fleeing night. The ancient fire of Persia sank and died, For Ahmad came—the heavens glorified. The crown of Adam’s children had appeared, The one whom generations long revered. A soul whose rank no mortal tongue could weigh, Whose worth no poet’s verse could ever convey. “Who is he?”—let all who wonder hear: Whose coming prophets and angels held so dear. In him all noble virtues were combined, Allah’s living mercy sent unto all mankind. From all creation, Allah chose him best, The Seal in whom all prophecy found rest. Through Ibrahim’s noble lineage he came— And Banu Hashim rose through Muhammad’s name. Upon the Throne appears his honored name; In Heaven and Earth resounds his matchless fame. Abul-Qasim—let every monarch know: No throne could grant the rank Allah bestowed. A radiant sun that shone on humankind, Whose mercy healed the wounded heart and mind. No orphan came to him and stood alone; He crowned the poor while kings adorned their thrones. The trees bowed low to greet him as he came, And stones themselves bore witness to his name. Creation wore its beauty drawn from him— The rose its fragrance, and the stars their gleam. By Muhammad’s honored name, to You we pray: O Allah, keep our footsteps in his way. Upon his Sunnah let us live and die, His Household guiding us till our souls fly.
